FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions.   If you still have something you’d like to know, feel free to contact me for more information.

What is NLP?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is the study of the relationship between the mind, linguistic patterns, and the resulting behaviour.  It was first developed in the 1950's and is widely used by sportsmen, coaches, and therapists in assisting people to make changes and improve performance.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis can be described as a deep state of relaxation or 'trance'.  We all experience trance and can do so several times a day..  for example; daydreaming - when you forget what is around you and are deeply thinking about something else or when you might be driving and at the end of the journey realise that you can't remember certain parts of that journey.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy uses a deep state of relaxation to engage with the subconscious mind to make changes in our responses.  The mind is hugely powerful and it is estimated that we only utilise 10% of it daily.  The remaining 90% of the mind works in the background and has a huge impact on us.   The conscious mind is responsible for our daily thoughts, actions, logic, and planning, and our subconscious is responsible for our autonomic responses and works hard to keep us safe.  However, the subconscious mind can become confused and miswired,  the subconscious mind can then associate the wrong things with danger and create unwanted, illogical responses, which can become a phobia.  The logical conscious part of the brain knows that something is safe but finds it hard to over-ride the sub-conscious response.

Will I feel out of control?

Many people worry that they will be 'out of control' during a Hypnotherapy session, this is not the case and you will be aware and in control of everything that you say and do.  In fact, it is not possible to hypnotise anyone who doesn't want to be hypnotised or go into a trance. You will never be asked to do anything you're not comfortable with.

How many sessions might I need?

Everyone is different, some people may experience changes in just one session whilst others may need longer.  We will discuss your progress regularly and agree on an action plan.

How do I start working with you?

Just book a discovery call with me and then we can agree on a plan, or, you can book either a virtual or face-to-face consultation appointment and we can get to work straight away.

Is it better to book a face-to-face or virtual appointment?

In the last few years, we have all become more accustomed to video calls and it has become clear that both types of appointment are equally effective.  So, it is personal preference, and, of course, down to geography and your own schedule.

What should I prepare before my initial appointment?

You don't need to do any preparation but it is useful to think about what you would like to work on, the impact it has on you and how making a change will benefit you.  If you are having a video appointment you will need to make sure you have a good internet connection, a video camera either on your computer or phone, and find a quiet spot where you can sit and relax without interruptions.
